چکیده

RANDALL, D. J., AND J. N. CAMERON. Respiratory control of arterial pH as temperature changes in rainbow trout Salmo gairdneri. Am. J. Physiol. 225(4) : 997-1002. 1973.-Arterial blood pH decreased as temperature increased, dpH/dT was 0.017 unit/“C and was independent of the acclimation history of the fish. Ventilation volume increased in proportion to oxygen uptake with temperature. Changes in water flow over the gills with temperature were associated with large changes in breathing rate and small changes in the volume of water pumped each breathing cycle. Percent oxygen extraction from water flowing over the gills and arterial oxygen tension did not change with temperature. The partial pressure of CO2 in arterial blood and the content of molecular CO2 in plasma did not change with temperature. Decreases in blood pH were associated with a fall in plasma total COP and bicarbonate.

Acid-base Regulation following Exhaustive Exercise: a Comparison between Freshwater- and Sea Water-adapted Rainbow Trout (salmo Gairdneri)

Blood acid-base regulation following exhaustive exercise was investigated in freshwater(FW) and seawater(SW) adapted rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) of the same genetic stock. Following exhaustive exercise at 10°C, both FW and SW trout displayed a mixed respiratory and metabolic blood acidosis. However, in FW trout the acidosis was about double that of SW trout and arterial blood pH took twice ...

Free and Total Calcium Concentrations in the Blood of Rainbow Trout, Salmo Gairdneri, during 'stress' Conditions

Measurements were made of the free and total calcium concentrations ([Ca] and Cat), acid-base status, haemoglobin concentration, haematocrit and plasma protein concentration in the blood of the rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri. In isolated blood, [Ca] was proportional to Cat while log[Ca] was inversely proportional to pH. Similar findings have been reported from human blood. During intense activi...

Blood Respiratory Properties of Rainbow Trout {salmo Gairdnert) Kept

1. Blood O2 transport and acid-base balance were studied at 20 °C in rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) which had been kept in water of high COa content (15 mmHg) for at least a week. Also the blood gas chemistry of fish rapidly entering or leaving the hypercapnic environment was studied. 2. Fish entering high COa water suffered a sharp decrease in blood pH which significantly reduced O2 transport...

DOWNSTREAM pH CHANGES IN WATER FLOWING OVER THE GILLS OF RAINBOW TROUT

We investigated the pH of interlamellar water of trout (Salmo gairdneri) by following changes in the downstream pH of expired water using a stopped-flow method. As water flowed over the gills of control fish, there was a significant decrease in water pH. Acetazolamide added to the water increased the CO2 disequilibrium, while carbonic anhydrase (CA) eliminated the CO2 disequilibrium relative to...

Myocardial intracellular pH in a perfused rainbow trout heart during extracellular acidosis in the presence and absence of adrenaline.

Myocardial intracellular pH was measured in a perfused rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri, with DMO (5,5-dimethyl-2,4-oxazlidinedione), to test the hypothesis that catecholamines promote active regulation of myocardial pH in order to protect contractility during a respiratory acidosis comparable to that observed after exercise. Under control conditions (extracellular pH = 8.0; PCO2 = 2 Torr), myoca...
